Bell Tower in Bruges, Belgium

The Bell Tower was built in the main square of Bruges Belgium in 1240, rebuilt after a fire in 1280. The octaganol top was added in 1483 - 1487. Bruges is a wonderful medieval town with amazing historical architecture!

The view from the top after climbing 366 steps is gorgous! The recent film, "In Bruges", was filmed in Bruges and in this tower and various sites around the town.

A little humor......by this time in my trip, we had spent so much money, all we could afford were some Pomme Frites (belgian French fries) from a stand in front of the Bell Tower!

The Boat Locks of Muiden

Holland, of course, has lots of water. Here I watched a boat come through the locks at Muiden, which was very interesting if you have never seen this.

The road was moved sideways in readiness for the boat coming through.

Almost there!

Going through!

People were waiting patiently to cross the road bridge.

You can see the boats passing through.

Coming out on the side of the sea. A little tight squeeze!

Muiderslot Castle

The Muiderslot castle in Muiden in North Holland was built in 1280 and rebuilt in 1370. It has been featured in many TV shows set in the middle ages. This is a very beautiful castle setting!

This is the view from the top of the castle towards the Ijsselmeer sea.

When driving away, I took this shot, as the castle looked so grand in the distance!

Lighthouse in Texel, Holland

This lighthouse was built in 1863 to help ships maneuver around the northern islands of Holland. It is now a wonderful sight and more of a beacon for ships rather than used for guidance.

I think it is obvious that I like the beach....warm beaches, that is. But what about in Holland near the cold North Sea? Yes! What a beautiful day I had at the beach in Scheveningen!
